10 Foot Conditions Orthotics Can Help With

September 19, 2022

Foot pain is fairly common among Americans and isn’t exclusive to any particular age bracket or walk of life. Unfortunately, like other pain conditions, many people don’t seek medical attention, which would otherwise provide simple solutions to improve their overall quality of life.

A common and effective treatment for foot pain is custom orthotics; an insole or shoe insert is customizable to each patient – much different from off-the-shelf foot orthotics.

Foot orthotics are known to be effective solutions for quite a few common foot conditions that are a nuisance to many Americans today.

Arthritis

Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis can cause stiffness and pain in your feet, whereas foot orthotics can correct your standing and walking to restore comfort.

Back Pain

This might come as a surprise, but back, hip, and knee pain can result from poor foot positioning. Foot orthotics correct foot alignment or provide extra cushioning to relieve pressure on bones.

Bunions

Bunions are a deformity of the lower toe joint due to persistent pressure from the big toe, causing a lump on the outside of your foot. Foot orthotics help correct and relieve the pressure that would otherwise cause bunion formation.

Bursitis

Strain or overuse from a misaligned foot can cause inflammation and swelling of the heel, also known as bursitis. Foot orthotics can provide support for the arch and heel, reducing pain or discomfort.

Plantar Fasciitis

Pain resulting from the inflammation of the tissue connecting your heel bone and toes can be corrected or reduced by heel and foot support provided by customized foot orthotics.

Flat Feet

A lack of arch in the foot can cause ankle, foot, or even back pain. Foot orthotics create a natural arch in the foot to reposition and relieve pain and discomfort.

Heel Spurs

Bone growth along your heel bone can press on tissues or tendons, causing inflammation and pain. Foot orthotics can provide cushioning and relieve pain and discomfort resulting from heel spurs.

High Arches

High arches can lead to conditions such as shin splints and plantar fasciitis. Foot orthotics can prevent the outward rolling of the foot and relieve ensuing pain.

Neuromas

Irritated or inflamed nerves can cause numbness, tingling, and pain, most commonly in the ball of your foot (Morton’s Neuroma).

Tendinitis

The foot has many tendons. There are plenty of opportunities for tendinitis resulting from impact or excessive standing, resulting in the irritation of your tendon and stretching of the arch of your foot.
