Custom Orthotics can drastically change the alignment and function of your feet. Usually, patients can see the benefit of these effects as early as a few days or within a couple of short months.

How do you know if orthotics are working?
Orthotics are made for realignment and muscle comfort.
Some signs that your orthotics are working include:
- Reduction in pain, including heel, knee, and ankle pain. This will generate initial relief as well as long-term comfort.
- Improved functionality. Daily movements such as running, walking, and jumping should feel much more comfortable! You will also experience less fatigue and pain when standing for long periods of time.
- Your posture and overall muscle alignment will improve.
Most signs that orthotics are working are physical—improving your daily quality of life and increasing your ability to thrive.
Should orthotics be uncomfortable at first?
During daily wear, Orthotics shouldn’t be uncomfortable to use while walking, jogging, or jumping. But this doesn’t mean that the first few wears won’t feel like an adjustment.
While you shouldn’t experience pain during the first use, it’s normal to experience discomfort when breaking in new orthotics. Orthotics will provide comfortable support as they mold, shape, and blend with your body.
What to expect when you start wearing orthotics?
It is completely normal to experience some discomfort when you start wearing orthotics. It is typically defined as a “shin splint” type ache.
How many hours a day should you wear orthotics?
Most people can comfortably wear orthotics all day (about 8-10 hours).
Do orthotics hurt your feet at first?
While you shouldn’t experience foot pain, discomfort is to be expected. Your feet will need time to adjust so that the orthotics can mold and settle around your feet and into your soles.
How long does it take for your feet to get used to orthotics?
The typical break-in period for your feet to get used to orthotics is one to six weeks. During this time, your feet will begin to get used to the orthotics and will experience a normal “ache” or “tired” feeling in the feet/ankles.
Do orthotics realign your body?
Orthotics can help with muscle, joint, and bone realignment. As they are customized to your feet, they gradually build strength and muscle tone on the weaker side. This will, in turn, increase general balance and stability and decrease inward or outward ankle rolling.
Should I wear my orthotics around the house?
Yes! Orthotics don’t need to be restricted to outside wear only. You should wear your custom orthotics as often as possible to see the full benefits of your custom orthotics.
If you’re not comfortable wearing your outside shoes inside the home, you can place your orthotics in any comfortable, closed-toed shoe for inside wear only.
Do orthotics reshape your feet?
Orthotics do not reshape your feet; they simply cushion and protect different parts of your foot without applying too much pressure.
How often should orthotics be adjusted?
Orthotics should be evaluated on a yearly basis and may be replaced every three years or so. Pediatric orthotics need to be monitored every six months, especially as a child’s shoe size grows.
